OpenNI SDK for Windows, developed by PrimeSense, is an open-source framework for building natural interaction applications with 3D depth-sensing cameras. It provides a unified, device-agnostic API that abstracts hardware details and gives developers reliable access to depth and color streams, device controls, and coordinate mapping on Windows. With built-in recording and playback, sample projects, and language bindings, it streamlines prototyping and deployment for real-time computer vision and human–computer interaction.

Key features:

  • Cross-device abstraction for PrimeSense-compatible depth cameras (e.g., PrimeSense Carmine, ASUS Xtion)
  • Access to synchronized depth and RGB streams, with depth–color registration and device property control
  • Recording and playback (.oni) for testing and reproducible workflows
  • C, C++, and C# APIs, with samples, utilities, and comprehensive documentation
  • Windows support for both 32-bit and 64-bit environments
  • Optional integration with middleware such as PrimeSense NITE for user tracking and gesture recognition (licensed separately)

Typical uses include gesture-based interfaces, body tracking, interactive installations, 3D scanning, and robotics perception.

OpenNI SDK for Windows is developed by PrimeSense and is used by 13 users of Software Informer. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 2.2 beta and 2.2. The names of program executable files are cmd.exe, NiAudioSample.exe and NiViewer.exe.
